PostSubject: Atomic Bombing of Japan   Mon Aug 06, 2007 12:14 am

Everyone knows that the US built and dropped two nuclear weapons on Japan near the end of World War II, and then forced Japan to surrender. So my question is was dropping atomic weapons on Japan the best way to end World War II and if we hadn't done it how do you think the war would've played out differently?

Considering our other option was a full-scale invasion of Japan, dropping the bombs was the only safe option for us.

As for the ending of the war if we invaded the war would've dragged on longer and a large portion of both armies would be extinguished.

That's the response a lot of people take on.

Drop atom bombs on Japan - kill thousands of civilians but lose none of ours

Invade Japan - kill civilians and loose many of our own soliders.

I think this tells itself....

There is a certain point where you have to say us or them.

The bombings were tragic, horrible events in world history.

But we also have to remember that Japan was the agressor in the war, and that with the general stubborness of the people there at the time, any sort of invasion would have been a major mess, like Vietnam and Iraq. This being AFTER we took out their army, which would have been no small task.

The bombs were the best choices.

Well Japan wasn't just going to stop fighting us, so...we stopped them first.
